Facilities Planning Advisory Committee Update: March 5, 2025
March 6, 2025
The Facilities Planning Board Advisory Committee met on March 5 to discuss capital project updates, energy management, utility costs and construction change orders.
Ro Punselie, energy manager with Navitas, presented the district's Energy Management Report and shared steps that Navitas has taken over the past five years to monitor energy and save money. This year, the district promoted a "Watt's Your Impact" challenge over winter break to encourage employees to take energy-saving measures in their spaces. A new challenge will take place over spring break as well.
The district's utility costs are continuing to increase. Executive Director of Facilities and Construction Scott Barbagallo shared information about annual budgeted expenses for water and sewer, electricity, natural gas and trash hauling.
Committee members also reviewed photos from Prop R 2024 construction projects that are under way, including Truman Middle School and Crestwood Elementary School, and design concepts for the future Lindbergh Farmers Club.
To support transparency throughout Prop R 2024 construction, the district has formed an ad hoc committee to review all change orders and contingency line item expenditures, and updated schedules and timelines for Prop R 2024 projects. Barbagallo reviewed and explained this month's change orders for the Board Advisory Committee's information.
The Facilities Planning Advisory Committee will make recommendations about facility needs and improvements, instructional design and district enrollment trends. The committee will also review and update Lindbergh's demographic study every two years.
This committee is chaired by Chief Financial Officer Joel Scheible and Chief Human Resources Officer Dr. Brian McKenney. Meetings are run by Superintendent Dr. Tony Lake.
The Facilities Planning Board Advisory Committee is scheduled to meet again in June.
