Lindbergh Schools is proud to be part of the OASIS Intergenerational Tutoring Program. OASIS pairs an older adult volunteer with an elementary student for individual help developing the child’s reading and language skills. In addition to improving reading skills, OASIS builds self-esteem and a positive attitude towards learning.
The program focuses mainly on students in grades K-3, with a time commitment of 30 minutes per week throughout the school year. The volunteer does not need any previous teaching experience. You need only bring your enthusiasm, patience and compassion to be a friend and role model. Prospective tutors need to complete a 10-hour training class and background check. Regular tutor meetings provide the help, support and enrichment ideas for working with your student.
