SSD Staff Member Honored with Lasting Impression Award
March 4, 2025
A member of the Special School District (SSD) team at Lindbergh Early Childhood Education has been recognized with the district's Lasting Impression Award, which honors operations and support staff whose behind-the-scenes efforts significantly impact students, staff, and families.
Jennifer Van Horn, a Speech Language Pathologist at ECE West, has gone above and beyond in her role, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to enhancing communication strategies and fostering meaningful connections with students and staff alike.
“Jen’s dedication, expertise, and innovation have transformed the lives of her students and colleagues,” said Tracy Brangle, ECSE Instructional Facilitator at SSD. “She goes beyond meeting communication goals, constantly seeking new strategies to ensure every child reaches their highest potential. When traditional methods weren’t yielding the expected progress for her students with autism, she researched and implemented new therapy approaches, leading to remarkable breakthroughs.”
In addition to her efforts in speech and communication strategies, Jen has played a crucial role in integrating Conscious Discipline into early childhood education. She has developed resources and training materials that benefit staff and families, ensuring that effective behavioral and emotional regulation strategies are accessible to all.
Special School District presents the Lasting Impression Award to 10 paraprofessionals each year. Nominations are reviewed by a committee comprised of SSD leadership and past award winners.
