Teaching and Learning Committee Update: January 28, 2025

January 28, 2025

The Teaching and Learning Board Advisory Committee met on Tuesday, Jan. 28, to learn about Reading Success Plans for Lindbergh students. Missouri state law requires all school districts to assess students for reading proficiency and develop a Reading Success Plan for any student who does not meet proficiency requirements, until proficiency is met.

District Literacy Coordinator Dr. Sarah Valter outlined what services and resources are provided in each of Lindbergh's five Reading Success Plan levels. Lindbergh Reading Success Plans are designed for students with specific reading needs to set goals and outline steps to work toward achieving them. All students who attend Reading Intervention or receive additional reading support in the classroom have a Lindbergh Reading Success Plan to address their individual student needs and monitor reading progress.

In addition, Maureen Stabler, Intervention Coordinator, shared three Reading Success Plan templates with committee members and gathered feedback. These templates are the tools school districts use to communicate student progress with parents throughout the year, in accordance with state statute.

The Teaching and Learning Committee provides input on teaching and learning within Lindbergh Schools. This includes learning about current curriculum and instructional practices as well as future-ready practices for instruction. As a part of this committee, members will provide feedback and suggestions for subjects undergoing curriculum revision as well as input on priorities for student learning. This committee is chaired by Chief Academic Officer Dr. Tara Sparks, Executive Director of Secondary Education Dr. Jaime Cavato, and Executive Director of Elementary Education Dr. Craig Hamby

The Teaching and Learning Committee will meet again on Feb. 11.
