Technology Advisory Committee Update: December 10, 2024
December 10, 2024
The December 9 meeting of the Technology Advisory Committee was led by Colin Davitt, Blended Learning and AI Coordinator for Lindbergh Schools, who presented a brief overview of AI use in the district, including the types of things the district is currently doing and what plans they have for the future.
To begin the meeting, committee members discussed the AIs they currently use in their own lives. Members reported using AI for both work and personal use.
Lindbergh Schools began discussing AI in the fall of 2022 with ChatGPT. Shortly after this, the district was approached by Securly to begin using AI Chat by Securly. Since its inception in May 2024, there have been 1.4 million chats started by students using this tool. The district has provided feedback to Securly on how to best improve its program. Davitt explained that the district chose to use AI Chat by Securly because of its coaching aspects. Davitt explained that teachers are currently teaching their students best practices in creating prompts for AI.
After seeing examples of student-generated prompts, Davitt presented members of the committee with the current Lindbergh Schools AI policy, adopted directly from the Missouri School Board Association. Members took time to read over the current policy, provide feedback, and ask questions. After taking time to review the policy, Davitt discussed the next steps. The district is currently looking at other AI tools for use. Cost and impact for students and staff will be the biggest factors in potentially using these tools.
The Technology Advisory Committee will meet again January 27, 2025.
