Teaching and Learning Advisory Committee Update: October 22, 2024

October 23, 2024

The Teaching and Learning Board Advisory Committee met on Oct. 22 to discuss three topics related to high school instruction, including plans for a microschool at Lindbergh High School, standards-based learning and grading, and the LHS Navigator course description guide.

A new program at LHS next year called Lindbergh Impact will provide students an opportunity to meet learning standards in a nontraditional high school environment. Impact will focus on learner-driven instruction, with guidance and support from LHS teachers who will help create content, including seminar and workshop topics. Students will participate in traditional high school courses each morning, and engage in Impact learning in the afternoon, after Power Lunch. More information about Impact will be available to LHS students and parents during the course planning process for the 2025-26 school year.

Committee members broke into small groups to discuss standards-based learning and grading, and the LHS Navigator course description guide. The Navigator is intended to provide academic guidance, and post-secondary personalized planning support. The goal of 2025-26 school year revisions will be to better organize course selections and career pathways to make them easier for students and families to understand.

The Teaching and Learning Committee provides input on teaching and learning within Lindbergh Schools. This includes learning about current curriculum and instructional practices as well as future-ready practices for instruction. As a part of this committee, members provide feedback and suggestions for subjects undergoing curriculum revision as well as input on priorities for student learning. This committee is chaired by Chief Academic Officer Dr. Tara Sparks, Executive Director of Secondary Education Dr. Jaime Cavato, and Executive Director of Elementary Education Dr. Craig Hamby.

The committee's next meeting will be on Tuesday, Dec. 3
