Farmers Club Committee Plans Learning Spaces

October 17, 2024

The Lindbergh Farmers Club Visioning Committee met on Oct. 16 to finalize what learning spaces will look like at the Farmers Club K-12 AgTech STEM Learning Center, which is scheduled to open in 2027.

Teachers, parents and staff met with architects from Perkins&Will to revisit the learning experiences students will have at the Farmers Club, and explore how the space should be designed in order to meet the needs of students, staff and the community.

Chief Academic Officer Dr. Tara Sparks explained the five place-based learning pathways that the Farmers Club will support, including agriculture, AgTech, sustainability, entrepreneurship and humanities. Then, participants met in small groups to explore the following questions:

  • Which pathways are explored in your grade span/content area?

  • What support do you need to develop these experiences?

  • How do you marry learning between the classroom and the farm?

  • What spaces at the Farmers club connect with your instruction?

The group also learned more about the seven categories of Living Design that will be considered in the design and construction of the Farmers Club. They include: resilience, operational energy, operational carbon, embodied carbon, water and third party certifications.

The committee continued by exploring how the Farmers Club facility itself can serve as a teaching tool for students, how the building design can connect to nature, and how the design can allow for a self-sufficient, resilient and durable facility that will last for decades and enhance the Farmers Club mission.

Following this meeting, Perkins&Will will begin its design process, to plan out the space and determine how it will be used.

Farmers Club Construction Schedule:

  • Schematic Design - August  2024

  • Design Development - September 2024
