Finance Committee Board Advisory Update: Oct. 15, 2024
Oct. 15, 2024
The Finance Board Advisory Committee met on Oct. 10 to discuss finance-related Board of Education agenda items and other topics of importance to the district's finance and operations.
The main topic for this month's meeting was cyber security and what it costs the district. Sonia Kesselring, Privacy & Security Specialist for the district, gave an overview of security costs. That included cyber insurance, business continuty and reputation.
Additoinally, Chief Financial Officer Joel Scheible went over the upcoming Amendment 2 that is up for a vote in the upcoming election, as it was a question from the previous meeting. She contacted someone at the State of Missouri office to get an explanation of where the money from the amendment, which would legalize sports betting in Missouri in some instances, would go.
Every month, the Finance Committee also reviews agenda items for the Board of Education's next meeting, including payroll and financial reports, contracts and budget adjustments.
The Finance Advisory Committee's next meeting will be on Nov. 19.
The Finance Advisory Committee exists to ensure transparency, accountability and efficiency in district finances. Committee members discuss areas covered by the district's fiscal management policies. In addition, the Board of Education will direct the specific responsibilities of the committee to review any matters potentially having a significant impact on district finances before the board takes action. This committee is chaired by Chief Financial Officer Joel Scheible.
