Six Flyers Named 2025 National Merit Semifinalists

Sept. 18, 2024

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation recently announced that six Lindbergh High School students have been named semifinalists in the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program. Approximately 16,000 students earned the honor nationwide.

National Merit Semifinalists are high school seniors who show exceptional skills, accomplishments and potential for success in rigorous college studies. Lindbergh’s honorees include Safiya Hasan, Vidur Kothur, Cooper Lord, Liam Mueller, Henry Ourth, and Jessica Wheatley.

These students entered the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2023 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. The nationwide pool of semifinalists represents fewer than 1% of U.S. high school seniors and includes the highest scoring individuals in each state. These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 6,870 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $26 million that will be offered next spring.

LHS Principal Dr. Eric Cochran said that he is proud and excited to have six students representing Lindbergh High School.

“I could not be more proud of these six students,” Cochran said. “This achievement is the result of hardwork and dedication both inside and outside of the classroom. We also want to especially their families, friends, and teachers in helping them reach this honor. Each student represents the best of Lindbergh High School."

National Merit Scholarship winners of 2025 will be announced in four nationwide news releases beginning in April and concluding in July. These scholarship recipients will join nearly 382,000 other distinguished young people who have earned the Merit Scholar title.
