Student Life Board Advisory Committee Update: Sept. 5 2024

Sept. 6, 2024

The Lindbergh Schools Student Life Board Advisory Committee held its first meeting of the year on Sept. 5, 2024. Committee Chair Dr. Jill Lawson, executive director of assessment and student services, began the meeting by introducing members and sharing how each person will contribute to the group in the coming year.

Dr. Lawson then summarized the committee's work from 2019-present, which has included feedback and input on district decisions including development of the Lindbergh Life Success Skills, creation of an online mental health resource hub, and implementation of student Social Emotional Learning (SEL) screeners. The committee has also conducted an audit of student clubs and sports, helped develop an inclusive decision-making framework and reviewed suicide prevention and awareness procedures. Most recently, the committee reviewed grade-level transition practices (from ECE to K, 5 to 6 and 8 to 9) to develop consistent experiences districtwide.

For the remainder of the meeting, members discussed possible topics for exploration in 2024-25, including: Mental Health/SEL, Career Exploration and Artificial Intelligence in the Classroom.

The Student Life Advisory Committee provides feedback and recommendations to the Board of Education on topics related to student life and success within Lindbergh Schools. Topics for analysis and feedback include social emotional learning, student safety and wellness, and extracurricular activities. This committee is chaired by Chief Academic Officer Dr. Tara Sparks and Executive Director of Assessment and Student Services Dr. Jill Lawson.

The Student Life Advisory Committee will meet again on Oct. 13.
