Board Approves Prop R Updates to LHS Pool
April 30, 2024
The Lindbergh Schools Board of Education voted on April 18 to approve updates to the Lindbergh High School natatorium pool mechanical system as part of Prop R 2024 bond issue improvements.
The board approved Jarrell Mechanical Contractors to do the work, in an amount not to exceed budgeted bond proceeds of $1,250,000, and authorized the district to negotiate a contract for the terms as presented.
In addition, the board also approved a resolution to encumber district fund balance accounts for the same amount, in order to replace the equipment this year during a short window of time when the pool is not in use. These funds will be reimbursed by bond proceeds following the first bond sale this summer.
The LHS pool was not included in Prop R 2019 renovations and was originally installed 20 years ago, during the 2004-05 school year. Necessary updates include the pool mechanical, dehumidification and HVAC systems. Trane is the only authorized seller of PoolPak, which is one of only two systems available for large natatorium pools.
This specialized equipment will be ordered as soon as possible, and takes approximately five months to deliver. Following contract negotiations, work on the pool will be scheduled to take place this fall, during a time when the pool is not in use.
Lindbergh voters approved Prop R 2024, a $150 million no-tax-rate-increase bond issue to support building equity across elementary schools, middle school renovations, safety upgrades districtwide and a PK-12 agricultural STEM learning center, in April 2024. More than 70% of voters cast ballots in favor of Prop R, which required 57.14% for approval.
