Teaching and Learning Board Advisory Committee Update: September 12, 2023
September 13, 2023
During the first Teaching and Learning advisory board meeting of the 2023-24 school year, Chief Academic Officer Dr. Tara Sparks opened the meeting with introductions of the committee members.
Dr. Sparks then turned the meeting over to Dr. Ronni Zagora, Executive Director of Secondary Education for Lindbergh Schools to explain the district's college and career readiness work. She explained the work done in the last five years to expand the offerings provided to students. She highlighted a number of programs already built into Lindbergh's current curriculum but stressed the continued need for opportunities outside of the classroom.
Zagora asked for committee members to discuss their current understanding of the work already being done and give their opinions on how Lindbergh is currently doing. Committee members felt the district needed to do continued work on exposing students to real-world experiences at all levels. After the exercise, Zagora explained to members the process of how the curriculum is created at Lindbergh. The process begins with the research and investigation phase, moves to the writing and revision phase, goes through the curation of resources, and finally ends at implementation.
Sparks then asked committee members what they knew about the Success-Ready Students Network before giving an overview of the program, the work that's been done up to this point, and Lindbergh's role in it. She then asked committee members to give their perspectives on things happening in the district right now that fit into the competencies she listed in her presentation on the work.
The Teaching and Learning advisory board will meet again on October 24, 2023.
