Student Life Committee Update: Sept. 8, 2023

Sept. 8, 2023

The Lindbergh Schools Student Life Board Advisory Committee held its first meeting of the year on Sept. 7, 2023. This is the committee’s sixth year. New members were introduced, Dr. Jill Lawson, executive director of assessment and student services, discussed the committee's previous history and the upcoming school year.

Members went around the room and introduced themselves and the building(s) that they are associated with in Lindbergh. Lawson then shared information about what the committee has worked on in the previous five years.

A look at that history:

  • 2018-19: LindberghLife Success Skills and restorative practices

  • 2019-20: Mental Health Resource Hub, Bullying prevention resources, student club/sport audit

  • 2020-21: Inclusive decision-making framework, suicide prevention and awareness procedures.

  • 2021-22: SEL screener investigation, SEL question audit, parent communication, opt-out process.

  • 2022-23: SEL screener implementation and platform review, student directory process.

Lawson had a couple of other icebreakers planned. Members walked around the room to cards labeled, “Early Childhood,” “Elemenatry School,” “Middle School,” and “High School.” She asked questions that utilized those schools as answers. This year, the main focus of the group will be the transition period from one school to another (i.e., from early childhood to kindergarten, or middle school to high school.)

Members then broke into small groups to discuss what students and families needs are for these different transitions. More time will be spent at the next meeting in these small groups. Lawson additionally had members fill out a short survey asking what they would like to discuss this year.

The committee will next meet Oct. 13.
