Finance Committee Update: May 16, 2023

May 18, 2023

This month, the Finance Board Advisory Committee reviewed finance related board agenda items for the month of May. Dawn Douglas, executive director of business and finance, reviewed revenue and expense reports and discussed end-of-year revenue totals, which are on target with projections.

Scott Barbagallo, director of facilities and construction, presented a bid for summer painting at Long Elementary School that will be presented to the board. This follows an investigation by the district to transition from student workers to an outside contractor for large-scale painting jobs. This will allow the district to complete projects in a more efficient manner. Student workers will continue to assist the Facilities Department in other areas.

The committee also reviewed a bid for EPSON classroom projectors at Lindbergh High School, an Apple lease for elementary teachers and students, and Prop R change orders.

The Finance Advisory Committee exists to ensure transparency, accountability and efficiency in district finances. Committee members will discuss areas covered by the district’s fiscal management policies.

In addition, the Board of Education will direct the specific responsibilities of the committee to review any matters potentially having a significant impact on district finances before the board takes action. The next meeting is June 13.
