Teaching and Learning Committee Update: Sept. 13, 2022

Sept. 13, 2022

During the Teaching and Learning Board Advisory Committee's first meeting of the year, Chief Academic Officer Dr. Tara Sparks introduced new group members and reviewed the district's curriculum cycle. She also shared Teaching and Learning goals from the district's annual Compass goals document.

Teaching and Learning's primary goal is: "How do we promote a culture of continuous improvement that supports personal and academic growth in a technological and global society?" In previous years, Teaching and Learning Advisory work has included: standards-based learning, LindberghLife Success Skills, library policies and procedures, and curriculum cycle work.

The advisory has also supported task force work around middle school redesign, music program evaluation, world languages, and school start times. This year, the advisory committee will review the secondary materials selection process for Social Studies, provide feedback on elementary literacy pilots, and review transfer goals and priority standards for health. Transfer goals are how students take the information they learn and transfer it out of the classroom, into their lives and careers. The Teaching and Learning Committee provides input on teaching and learning within Lindbergh Schools. This includes learning about current curriculum and instructional practices as well as future-ready practices for instruction.

As a part of this committee, members will provide feedback and suggestions for subjects undergoing curriculum revision as well as input on priorities for student learning. This committee is chaired by Chief Academic Officer Dr. Tara Sparks and Director of Secondary Education Ronni Zagora.
