May 2, 2022
This month, the World Languages Task Force focused its final meeting of the year on one of its priorities defined in previous meetings: beginning exposure to world languages in elementary school.
The group has been developing prototypes for expanding world language opportunities. They have looked into the potential for a world cultures and language foundations experience at the elementary school level. The group has also discussed providing students with the opportunity to select a language in sixth grade for continued study. Additionally, the task force has considered American Sign Language as a general elective and additionally to adding a non-western language as another world language option at the high school.
Members of the task force will present their recommendations to the Teaching and Learning board advisory for further feedback on Tuesday, May 3.
The task force will reconvene as needed to move from research to impelmentation.
