Student Life Committee Update: April 18, 2022
April 18, 2022
The Student Life Board Advisory Committee held its final meeting of the 2021-22 school year Thursday, April 14. It was the first time the group met in-person since the first meeting of the school year on Sept. 9, 2021. The group discussed discipline procedures in the district handbook, continued social-emotional assessment updates and led with an update on the members who will be leaving after their two-year term ended with this meeting.
For the discussion involving the discipline procedures, Dr. Ronni Zagora, executive director of secondary education, spoke about the district’s definitions for discipline and how they are created. Small groups broke off to focus on any concerns with definitions in the handbook.
Another update on the social-emotional wellbeing assessment was provided by Dr. Jill Lawson, executive director of assessment and student services. She discussed the best way and implementation of the assessment, communication for it and when it will begin. The hope is for the assessment to be administered twice a year, with parents able to opt out of it.
A schedule is being created, with the three different assessments from three different companies. This is currently a pilot program, as data needs to be collected to determine the best assessment to use district wide. Satchel Pulse, Panorama and SAEBR are the three third-party companies being utilized.
