Inclusion, Equity and Diversity Update: April 15, 2022

April 15, 2022

Lindbergh's Inclusion Equity and Diversity Committee met on April 11 to recap work for the current school year and begin planning for the committee's work in the 2022-23 school year.

Ultimately, the goal of our district work is to create a culture where people are accepted, appreciated, treated fairly and validated. As he completes his first year with Lindbergh Schools, Dr. Jeremy Mapp, director of inclusion, equity and diversity, gathered feedback from the group about the committee's work so far. He also reviewed the training of teachers and administrators that has taken place this year with Floyd Cobb and John Krownapple, authors of "Belonging Through a Culture of Dignity." This work is designed to inspire a shared version of inclusion, nurture belonging, and promote action to honor dignity.

Dr. Mapp has also trained about 60 staff members in restorative practices, which is a model for developing relationships and trust through community building in Lindbergh classrooms and schools.

"Connecting with one another and identifying the things we have in common helps support student learning, strengthens relationships and builds trust in classroom communities," Mapp said.
