Teaching and Learning Update: Nov. 30, 2021
Nov. 30, 2021
The Teaching and Learning Board Advisory Committee met for the third time during the 2021-22 school year on Tuesday, Nov. 30 to discuss the creation of two new task forces, as well as proposed changes to library-related Board of Education policies.
Chief Academic Officer Dr. Tara Sparks opened the meeting with details related to two new task forces. With the transition of elementary schools to standards-based grading for the 2022-23 school year, the district will create an elementary school report card task force to ensure the new report cards clearly and accurately reflect student learning, growth and ownership.
The second task force will examine the district’s current language programming and how to create additional language opportunities for all students. The task force will investigate acceleration options for middle school students, as well as adding programming for elementary school students. The group will also discuss expanding languages beyond the current offerings of German, French and Spanish.
Next, Dressel Elementary School library media specialist Karen Czaicki shared the proposed revisions to library-related board policies. Czaicki highlighted changes related to fees and fines, intellectual access and collection development. Committee members reviewed the proposed revisions and discussed any need for clarifications before the policies are finalized.
The committee’s next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 18.
