LHS Student Council Wins Statewide Award
April 26, 2021
Lindbergh High School Student Council is one of 60 in the state of Missouri to earn the 2020 Missouri Association of Student Councils Gold Honor Council Award, a significant accomplishment in any year, but especially considering the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic. Superintendent Dr. Tony Lake presented student council members with this honor during school on April 21.
The Gold Honor Council Award honors councils that have a comprehensive program to promote student activities and student leadership. These activities can include school service, spirit, community service, student and teacher recognition, and leadership training. Councils must submit an application in order to be eligible.
At LHS, the student council has found ways to plan safe, fun activities during a very atypical school year, including a socially distanced Trunk or Treat for the community, a blood drive to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, a socially distanced Visit with Santa and a livestreamed Battle of the Classes virtual all-school assembly. Students also supported recognition programs for LHS students, staff and teachers; a pen pal program with Special School District students, and inclusion training.
“Student councils and student leaders make a positive contribution to their schools and help create a positive educational climate,” said Karen Haak, MASC Honor Council chairman. “We congratulate (Lindbergh) for providing an atmosphere where students and student council can play a vital role in your school.”
