March 17, 2020
Dear Lindbergh Families,
This post includes several important updates regarding school closures through Friday, April 3. Please read this message carefully and watch for additional updates soon from your child’s teacher. In addition, bookmark our COVID-19 website for resources, updates and information.
Lindbergh Schools Family Helpline
Lindbergh Schools has established a helpline that will be monitored daily to respond to family needs during this closure. Please call 314-729-2448, or email covidhelp@lindberghschools.ws, and a member of our team will respond to you within 24 hours (8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday).
Computer and Internet Access
- If your student does not have access to a computer at home, please communicate directly with your teacher or email covidhelp@lindberghschools.ws.
- Spectrum is waiving installation fees and providing 60-day Internet access for families during the COVID-19 crisis. Please call 844-488-8395 for details.
Meals
- Families in need of meal assistance during the school closure can sign up for free student meals by filling out this online form:
- Some local restaurants are also offering meal assistance to families in need. In coming days, a list will be posted on our COVID-19 website.
- In addition, Lindbergh Lights the Way and Step Up of St. Louis are collecting non-perishable items for families and working with Lindbergh social workers to identify needs.
- To donate, visit Lindbergh Lights the Way or Step Up of St. Louis on Facebook
Virtual Instruction
Providing virtual instruction each day will allow your student to connect with teachers and classmates online, continue math and literacy instruction, and provide a sense of normalcy in their daily routine.
Preschool teachers will focus on promoting play at home, and providing daily recorded read-alouds and learning challenges for families to complete at home.
Elementary school teachers will focus primarily on continuation of math and literacy instruction at home.
- Grades K-2 will have a maximum of 20 minutes of video-based instruction each day, plus reading, writing and phonics activities, for a total of about 60 minutes of learning time each day.
- Grades 3-5 will have a maximum of 30 minutes of video-based instruction, plus reading and assigned tasks, for a total of about 80 minutes of learning time each day.
- LEAP will provide one lesson for every day of a student’s missed instruction. This will look like a 10-minute video lesson and appropriate tasks, for a total of about 30-60 minutes of learning each week.
- Teachers will have set office hours each day when families can communicate via email.
Middle school and high school teachers will continue to support any learning that was assigned prior to spring break and can be continued at home. Each class will provide a maximum of 10 minutes per day of video-based instruction, supplemented by additional tasks, not to exceed 30 minutes of learning per day for middle school, and 40 minutes of learning per day for high school classes.
Special Education: Intervention and special education staff will be collaborating in support of your student’s needs.
Please watch your email for communication from your child(ren)’s teacher(s) by the end of the day Monday, March 23.
Activities, Athletics and Events Canceled
- All activities, athletics and events are canceled through Sunday, April 5. This includes all athletic competitions and practices, Community Ed and Rec programming, performances, clubs, meetings and outside rentals.
Buildings Open on Monday, March 23
- All Lindbergh Schools will be open from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Monday, March 23, to allow parents and guardians, and staff members to pick up medications and other essential belongings prior to this extended school closure.
- To keep our entire community safe and healthy, please do not come to school on Monday unless absolutely necessary. If you do need to come, we ask that you please follow this schedule:
- Last name A-F: 10-11 a.m.
- Last name G-L: 11 a.m.-12 p.m.
- Last name M-R: 12 p.m.-1 p.m.
- Last name S-Z: 1-2 p.m.
- In addition, plan ahead and make a list of what you need to pick up. We are asking families to spend as little time as necessary in buildings to pick up items. We will be enforcing social distancing to protect the health of our Lindbergh community.
During the next two weeks, Lindbergh’s custodial and facilities staff will be working around the clock to deep clean, sanitize and keep our buildings safe and healthy for staff and students. I would like to thank them for their hard work, dedication and support. Thank you also to our teachers, administrators and staff who are devoting countless hours to ensure that education continues for Lindbergh students.
Difficult times can bring out the best in all of us. Watching our community come together and support one another gives me hope for our children and our future. Thank you again for your understanding and patience as we navigate this new landscape. We will continue to keep you updated as information is available.
Sincerely,
Dr. Tony Lake
Superintendent
