LHS Hosts Sunday Night Lights Oct. 13
Oct. 9, 2024
On Sunday, October 13, at 5:15 PM. Lindbergh will be hosting its 15th annual Sunday Night Lights. The event is supported through individual and group volunteers from the schools and community. It will be hosted at Lindbergh High School at the football stadium complex.
The event involves children battling life-altering illnesses such as cancer, partnering with students of the football team, marching band, cheerleaders, and dance team. With their buddies, under the lights of the football field, these Heroes will be playing a game of flag football, playing with the band, cheering with the cheerleaders, or dancing with the dance team.
Admission to the event is free and attendance is encouraged to support these Heroes and their families. The event includes carnival games for the Heroes, a meal for the Heroes and their families, concessions for all attendants, and multiple ways in which attendees can share in this experience.
Sunday Night Lights began after a Lindbergh Freshman Jake Franzel was diagnosed with a rare bone cancer, osteosarcoma. Jake’s dream was to make it on the Varsity Football Team, but could not after having his right humerus bone replaced by a titanium bone. He was told that he could no longer participate in contact sports or be a part of the marching band, playing his tuba.
Because Jake always wanted to play “under the lights”, Sunday Night Lights was born.
Though he lost his battle in January 2012, his impact continues through this yearly event, granting children with similar circumstances the same love and support from the community that he experienced.
This event relies on community support, and volunteers are still needed and welcomed. To volunteer, visit www.snlheroes.org.
