Lindbergh, Sunset Hills Partner to Support Safe Walks to School

April 15, 2024

Lindbergh Schools and the City of Sunset Hills recently celebrated the completion of a new sidewalk project that will create more walkable neighborhoods for the community and support safe student travel to and from school.

On Friday, April 5, Sunset Hills Mayor Pat Fribis and Lindbergh Superintendent of Schools Dr. Tony Lake joined students, administrators and city officials in a ribbon cutting to celebrate the completion of this new sidewalk, which is located near Truman Middle School on Eddie and Park Road, and runs from Kitun Park to Lindbergh Boulevard.

In 2022, the district partnered with Sunset Hills to help fund this project, which was strategically identified by the city and the school district because of the significant number of families for whom this will create a safer walking and biking route to school. The district’s total contribution was $35,000.

The district encourages students to use safe routes to walk or bike school when possible, and supports this effort by employing crossing guards at all schools.

“As community partners, Lindbergh Schools and the City of Sunset Hills share a commitment to supporting safe walking routes to school and healthy lifestyle choices for students, families and residents in our community,” Dr. Lake said. “We are excited to continue working together to find ways to help fund these improvements in a strategic way.”
