Truman Earns Promising Practice Certification
June 5, 2023
Truman Middle School earned Promising Practice certification from Character.org, a national advocate and leader for character in schools and communities, on June 1 along with 176 other schools and organizations.
"Truman is honored to receive this recognition," Truman Principal Dr. Mike Straatmann said. "We strive to create a culture where student voices are heard and the student-led activities fair is a great example of collaboration among our many different student groups."
Truman's student-led activity fair earned recognition for the school. The Promising Practice demonstrates significant impact and is fully aligned with one or more of Character.org’s 11 Principles Framework for Schools: A Guide to Cultivating a Culture of Character.
"We are extremely proud to recognize the schools and organizations that have developed and implemented a
Promising Practice” said Dr. Arthur Schwartz, President of Character.org. “Each of these programs and initiatives have demonstrated significant impact and strongly align with the principles that help schools and organizations cultivate a culture of character.”
This year’s character development practices and initiatives included peer mentoring, service-learning, and conflict resolution approaches. Many of the Promising Practices also involve parents and the local community.
Character.org will honor each 2023 Promising Practice recipient (schools and organizations) at its 30th Anniversary National Forum LIVE in Washington D.C. to be held November 6-7, 2023.
