Board Approves New Start Times for 2021-22

May 12, 2021

The Lindbergh Schools Board of Education voted Tuesday, May 11 to approve new school day start and end times, beginning with the 2021-22 school year. School start and end times are as follows:

  • Elementary School: 8:55 a.m.-3:45 p.m.
  • Middle School: 7:40 a.m.-2:40 p.m.
  • High School: 8 a.m.-3 p.m.
  • Early Childhood Education: 7 a.m.-5:30 p.m. (with instruction from 7:45 a.m.-2:20 p.m.)

A task force including students, staff and parents recommended these new start times for elementary and high school to the Board of Education on April 13, following a year of meetings that included input from all stakeholder groups and thoughtful consideration of a communitywide survey. Although the middle school start time remains unchanged, students will gain additional minutes in the morning due to time changes for bus transportation.

The School Start Times Task Force followed a design thinking process to empathize with those who are currently affected by school start times, define the problem, come up with ideas and develop a prototype. Considerations included improved sleep patterns for children, increased academic outcomes, transportation and child care.

Following the April board meeting, these recommended changes were shared with the Lindbergh community using multiple platforms to promote awareness and gather additional feedback.
