Lindbergh Robotics Teams Rock Rookie Seasons
February 20, 2018
Robotics teams “Team Titanium” and “The Blockheads” recently wrapped up winning rookie seasons, thanks to some very talented students from Lindbergh High School and Sperreng Middle School.
Eighth-graders Matthew McKean and Will Blumenkemper, seventh-graders Nathaniel Yepez and Joe Ferretti, and sixth-grader Andrew Blackwood, all students at Sperreng, joined LHS sophomores Jonathan Ferretti and Mohaned Alameer to form Team Titanium. The students spent several months designing, building and competing with a robot in the FIRST Tech Challenge Relic Recovery season. They ranked No. 1 during qualifications matches at St. Louis Community College – Florissant, to earn the title of finalist alliance captain.
The Blockheads include LHS freshmen Caroline Sluss, Christina Yepez, Claire Sackman, Julianna Jones and Sydney Gralike, and Sperreng Middle School eighth-grader Reagan Mattison. During their rookie season, the girls won the Judges Award for Gracious Professionalism on and off the field. They also continued work on their EcoGloo project, which uses recycled Styrofoam.
Both The Blockheads and Team Titanium were invited to be part of the Robotics Day at the Magic House on Feb. 3.
