Community Invited to Crestwood Mall Open House
June 24, 2015
This is an opportunity for voices in the Lindbergh community to be heard. We encourage all Lindbergh parents to attend the July 8 open house and request that no tax increment financing (TIF) be used to fund a residential development.
Redevelopment of the mall property and renewal in Crestwood is something we all want. However, Lindbergh Schools has serious concerns about using Tax Increment Financing (TIF) for residential development, which makes up a substantial portion of the current proposal. UrbanStreet is proposing 225 residential apartments as part of the mixed-use plan.
More than 92 percent of the funding required to educate each child comes from local tax dollars. This essentially makes Lindbergh a private school district almost entirely funded by our community. Local tax dollars are our lifeblood. When new students enroll in an already overcrowded district without the necessary additional tax dollars to educate them, every student suffers and all Lindbergh taxpayers are affected.
