Following the vote, Alderman Grant Mabie requested that the city attorney prepare an ordinance authorizing Hausfeal-Lavigne to prepare the comprehensive city plan. The board is scheduled to vote on that ordinance June 23 at 7 p.m.
Hausfeal-Lavigne recently completed a similar comprehensive plan for Sunset Hills, which has a track record for retail success. The neighboring community has welcomed several new businesses in the past few years without a TIF, including Chick-fil-A, Five Guys Burgers and Fries and Petro Mart.
Crestwood Elementary School fifth-grader Luke Morrow also addressed the board, urging them to make good decisions for the next 5, 10, even 20 years and beyond.
“I hear that Crestwood Mall is going to be redeveloped and that is really exciting,” Luke said. “Until I also hear it could mean many more kids come to Crestwood Elementary School without any money to hire teachers, or do any renovations to grow the school. In my neighborhood, there are people of all ages. Everyone pays taxes to Lindbergh. We are all very much invested in this area and our community and our schools. We don’t want any of our corporate citizens not paying their fair share, which then shifts the burden to everyone else.”
