December 22, 2014
Tilles Park Trip a Popular TREND
Truman and Sperreng middle school TREND club sponsored a student bus trip to Tilles Park Winter Wonderland earlier this month. Members met at Sperreng for activities and a pizza party, then took the bus to Winter Wonderland. Some students incorporated the Polar Express theme and wore pajamas! The students and club sponsors sang holiday songs, and everyone enjoyed the light display.
ECE Lions, Giraffes Build Sharing Tree
The Lindbergh Early Childhood Education Lion and Giraffe classrooms worked all month creating their annual Sharing Tree to enjoy together. First, students in each classroom talked about trees – where to find them, what they look like in winter compared to spring, the parts of a tree, and what animals live in trees.
Then, the classes talked about building a “Sharing Tree,” including a discussion about what it means to share, or give part of yourself to help others. Lion teacher Lisa Janis said the sharing tree is all about sharing friendships, ideas, time and help.
To make the tree, the Lions and Giraffes worked together, stacking and taping boxes to create the base. They then rolled up newspapers and taped them in tubes to create the branches, and taped the branches to the tree trunk. Students then painted the tree, using lots of pretty colors, and talked about what other materials were available to add creativity and uniqueness to the tree.
ECE Turtles Create Gingerbread Treats
Earlier this month, the Turtle classroom at Lindbergh Early Childhood Education read the book “Gingerbread Baby,” by Jan Brett. After they read the story, the Turtles make their own gingerbread boys and girls. Speech therapist Paula Pavel surprised the class by bringing supplies to make gingerbread houses as well!
Studetns Enjoy PJs and Pancakes, Cookies with Santa
Crestwood Elementary School students stayed cozy in their PJs and enjoyed breakfast from Cris’ Cakes during the school’s annual PJs and Pancakes event on Dec. 13. After breakfast, students visited with Santa, made crafts and had fun listening to holiday stories.
The Crestwood Flyers Club helped decorate for the event, creating giant snowflakes to add festivity to the schoolwide celebration.
