Lindbergh High School once again has been recognized as one of the top high schools in the country by U.S. News and World Report, ranking top 10 in Missouri and in the top 5 percent of high schools nationwide that were included on the list.
U.S. News and World Report released its “2017 Best High Schools” list on April 25, and LHS received a Silver Medal of Distinction, ranking eighth in Missouri and 1,071 nationwide. More than 22,000 public high schools were eligible for the list, with the top 6,041 earning gold, silver or bronze distinctions. Schools are recognized for their performances on state assessments, graduation rates and how well they prepare students for college.
“It is always a great honor to be recognized as one of the best high schools in the nation,” said Principal Dr. Eric Cochran. “Our staff works hard each day to ensure our students receive the highest levels of instruction and preparation for life beyond high school.”
Lindbergh High School students scored well above state averages in both English and mathematics proficiency exams, with 50 percent of students participating in Advanced Placement courses. In 2016, LHS had a 96 percent graduation rate and a 24.0 composite score on the ACT. Graduating seniors also earned more than $17 million in college scholarships.
The U.S. News and World Report methodology takes into account several factors such as test scores and the number of advanced courses offered. The list recognizes schools that serve all students well, not only those who are college bound, and schools that produce measurable academic outcomes to show that they are educating students well and preparing them for successful futures.
