Lindbergh Schools administrators are projecting another year of rapid growth, with 182 additional students expected to enroll for the 2017-18 school year. Over the next four years, K-12 enrollment is expected to increase by 901 additional students.
These projections continue an ongoing growth trend in the Lindbergh district, as young families continue to move into existing homes that are being sold by longtime residents, most of whom are empty nesters. District enrollment began increasing steadily in 2006 as a result of several factors, including academics that rank among the best in the state, affordable homes and strong communities. Over the past four years, K-12 enrollment has increased by 636 students, according to official enrollment reports that are presented to the Board of Education each fall. Total district enrollment for 2016-17 is 6,736.
"As families continue to move into the Lindbergh district, we expect that enrollment growth will continue for the next several years," Assistant Superintendent Dr. Brian McKenney said. "It is exciting to welcome so many new students to our schools, but the constant growth also creates challenges as we work to provide adequate staffing and classroom space year after year."
Earlier this year, a committee of parents, community members and administrators met to redraw elementary and middle school attendance zones, in preparation for the opening of Dressel Elementary School in fall 2017. Dressel will provide critical relief for overcrowding in grades K-5, and it will bring enrollment at Lindbergh’s existing elementary schools back at or under capacity. In addition, Lindbergh High School will reclaim 8-10 classrooms and 20,000 square feet of space in 2017-18 when district-level programs vacate the high school and relocate to a new building that is being constructed on the former Johnny’s Market property.
