Alum Collects Shoes for People in Guatemala
February 26, 2016
Lindbergh High School class of 1981 graduate Diana Delia Thompson recently spearheaded a campaign to collect 1,000 pairs of tennis shoes for residents of "the Dump," an impoverished area in Teculatan, Guatemala, where the people live with very few resources.
Last fall, Thompson contacted LHS Spanish teacher Carena Heilich, who presented the idea to her students and fellow teachers. Together, the five Spanish teachers’ students donated 471 pairs of tennis shoes, helping Thompson to surpass her goal and collect 1,287 pairs of shoes in all.

Thompson has visited Teculatan before, and said the residents there literally live on top of a landfill, which is very dangerous without shoes. She will visit again this May to donate shoes to the people living in this impoverished area of Guatemala, addressing a very real health hazard in the area with much needed assistance.
