The Crestwood Elementary School Environmental Club recently spent an afternoon beautifying the school’s outdoor landscaping by tucking Missouri native wildflowers into the planters out front. A flat of flowers was donated by Missourians for Monarchs and the Missouri Prairie Foundation.
LHS Students Serve as Poll Workers this November
Four Lindbergh High School students worked the polls on Election Day Nov. 3 as part of the High School Student Election Judge Program. The students were among 159 students from high schools across St. Louis who were nominated by their high schools to assist election judges at 106 polling locations.
Sophomore students Jessica Kramer and Magdalene Parker served at the SCOPE/South St. Louis County building on Will Drive. Sophomore Leah McGuire and senior Caroline Tribl assisted at the St. Louis County Government Center South, on Lemay Ferry Road.
Lindbergh High School National Honor Society sponsored a drive in November to collect leftover Halloween candy and donate it to troops serving overseas through the USO’s Operation Gratitude. Operation Gratitude is organized by pediatric dentist Dr. Murray Appelbaum as a way to collect and donate Halloween candy in a healthy way. Students and teachers donated candy and NHS members also wrote letters of thanks and appreciation to servicemen and women. Student Wins Donation for Long Playground
Long Elementary School fourth-grader Kate Bauer recently won second place in the Dierbergs “Kids Bee Healthy” essay contest, earning a $500 check for the school’s all-inclusive playground effort. Kate also won a bike and helmet, and healthy goodie bags for her entire class! Students were invited to write an essay in 50 words or less describing what they pack for lunch and what they play at recess in order to stay fit and healthy. Long Elementary School parents and students have been raising money all year to help make the school playground inclusive for all students.

Long Elementary School first-grader Adelyn Franklin recently sponsored a lemonade stand and garage sale to raise almost $500 for the school’s playground efforts. Long Elementary School parents and students have been raising money all year to help make the school playground inclusive for all students.
Kennerly Variety Show Benefits Causes Close to Home
This year’s Kennerly Elementary School Variety Show raised $3,000 for causes that are near and dear to the school community. Two $1,500 checks were presented to the American Diabetes Association, in honor of second-grader Aidan Lakin, and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, in honor of first-grader Campbell Crask. Students, staff and parents devoted countless hours to make the 2015 “Broadway!” talent show a success on Nov. 13 and 14.

“They’ve gotten a big drink of water, and with a little bit of sunshine, they will be well on their way to growing roots that will sustain them through the winter,” said club sponsor Kari Pratt.

In 1994, the Missouri General Assembly passed legislation allowing high school students ages 15-18 to assist election authorities on Election Day. Students can earn either community service hours or be compensated for their work.
