April 29, 2021
Lindbergh High School has been recognized as one of the top high schools in the country by U.S. News and World Report, ranking in the top 2% in Missouri and in the top 5% of listed high schools nationwide.
U.S. News and World Report released its “2021 Best High Schools” list on April 27, and LHS ranked 10 in Missouri and 920 nationwide. This is an increase from the school’s 2020 rankings, which were 17 in Missouri and 1,406 nationwide. In all, 24,000 public high schools were reviewed, and 17,857 were ranked on this year’s list.
“Lindbergh High School teachers and staff work hard every day to provide students with personalized instruction, challenging curriculum and preparation for life beyond high school,” said Principal Dr. Eric Cochran. “We are proud to rank among the nation’s best high schools, and this status is a direct reflection of our outstanding students and staff.”
LHS performed in the 94th percentile among all schools in the rankings, based on weighted scores across six indicators of school quality. These indicators include college readiness, college curriculum, math and reading proficiency and performance, underserved student performance, and graduation rate.
The high school’s percentile rank for college-ready student performance was 89.6%, based on AP and IB exam participation rates and the percentage of students who passed at least one AP or IB exam. At Lindbergh, 49% of seniors took at least one AP exam, and of those students, 85% scored 3 or higher on an exam. Of the 10% of seniors who took at least one IB test, 91% scored 4 or higher on an exam.
Data sources include the U.S. Department of Education’s data and profile information about public schools, in addition to 2018-19 statewide assessment data and high school graduation rates, Advanced Placement examination data, and International Baccalaureate data.
