Flyers Shine at AAU Gymnastics Championship

The Lindbergh Community Ed Gymnastics Team won a variety of medals, ribbons and plaques, including a first place finish by the Bronze Excel team, during the AAU Midwest Regional Gymnastics Championship, May 4-6 at Farmington Civic Center. The team represents elementary and middle school students from across the district.

In a highlight for the entire team, Lajla Zahirovic and Malia Mustabasic tied for first place in the All-American Award for Excel Bronze. Lajla won the tiebreaker with a high score on bars, and is now the reigning Midwest Bronze AAU All-American for 2018.

Event winners included:

  • Evelyn Pyle, first place bars
  • Phoebe Kent, first place floor
  • Phrankie Frank, first place vault
  • Lajla Zahirovic, first place vault and bars
  • Malia Mustabasic, first place vault, bars, beam and floor

All-Around top finishers:

  • Nola Frank, third place Excel Silver
  • Phrankie Frank, third place Excel Gold
  • Evelyn Pyle, third place Level 2
  • Phoebe Kent, third place Level 2

Team award:

  • Sofia Guyott, Malia Mustabasic, Lillian Yemm and Lajla Zahirovic; first place Excel Bronze

In all, 19 athletes from Lindbergh Community Ed competed at the regional competition, including:

  • Level 1 - Annie Haberberger, Allison Hoeing, Madelyn RogersChloe Fuchs,
  • Level 2 - Isabella Logger, Evelyn Pyle,  Phoebe Kent
  • Excel Bronze - Sofia Guyott, Malia Mustabasic,. and Lajla Zahirovic,  Lillian Yemm
  • Excel Silver - Claire Kimberlin, Madeline Boyd,  Maggie Garavaglia, Nola Frank, Amber Stutz
  • Excel Gold -  Madison Dempsey, Phrankie Frank,  Samantha Yemm
