“These kids have big hearts for serving others, which makes our hearts so happy,” said teacher Stephanie Meesey, who sponsors the club along with teachers Jackie Theodore and Molly DeClue, and library assistant Susan Dooling.

Sappington Elementary School fifth-grader Fiona Sutter recently was honored by the St. Louis County Police for helping a neighbor in need. For her caring gesture, Fiona received a Do The Right Thing Award. Fiona is a member of Sappington’s Girls on the Run team, and one day while running through a nearby subdivision, she saw a distressed woman standing by her car with the hood up. The woman was holding her hand, which appeared to be injured.
Fiona stopped to ask the woman if she was okay, and the woman told Fiona that her car wouldn't start and that she had just recently lost her husband of many years. Fiona could tell the woman was very upset, so she comforted her until one of the coaches could catch up to help the woman with her car. The woman later expressed how much it meant to her that Fiona took the time to check on her and help her in her time of need.
