More than 1,000 students from 50 high schools around St. Louis will visit Lindbergh High School this fall for the Missouri Association of Student Councils Gateway District Convention. As the district president, LHS is responsible for organizing the entire convention, including a fundraising goal of $15,000. You can help LHS Student Council reach its goal by making a GoFundMe donation here: http://www.gofundme.com/l6nkyo. The money raised will be used for food, supplies and a motivational speaker.
Crestwood Scouts Bring New Life to Outdoor Learning Area
The fifth-grade Girl Scouts at Crestwood Elementary have been bringing new life to the school’s Outdoor Learning Area. They have rebuilt a wooden bridge, stabilized the classroom benches, cleared out overgrown growth and made stepping stones. They also wrote a grant and received money to purchase an outdoor shed. The girls’ most recent project was building different types of birdhouses using re-purposed wood from the handrails that were replaced on the bridge. These birdhouses will be placed throughout the outdoor learning area.
Student Enters Global Art Contest
Sperreng Middle School eighth-grader Ali Kricho recently entered the 24th annual juried art competition and exhibition for artists who are visually impaired or blind. She worked for more than a month with librarian Amy Sears to create a 3D mask of her face. Ali created the mask out of paper mache, painted it herself, and even added hair and a pony tail. She will find out if she places in the global competition on August 1. The competition is sponsored by the American Printing House for the Blind.
Student’s Jump Rope for Heart Fundraising Tops $1,000
Concord Elementary School fifth-grader Olivia Dull raised $1,076 for the American Heart Association this year during the school’s Jump Rope for Heart event. She was the top fundraiser for the entire school, for the second year in a row! To thank Olivia for her hard work to help such a worthwhile cause, Concord will name the school gym in her honor for the 2015-16 school year.
