Kiwanis Recognizes LHS Student of the Month
Lindbergh High School senior Elaine Badr recently was named student of the month for April by The Kiwanis Club of Crestwood-Sunset Hills. Elaine is a bright, kind, well rounded student who has earned a 3.6 GPA while taking extremely difficult courses and being involved in school and working, said LHS College and Career Counselor Kate Keegan.
Elaine has been a member of student council, chamber orchestra, Tri-M music honor society, youth in government, conference on national affairs, Link Crew and yearbook. Recently she was awarded the Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship from Saint Louis University, where she will attend school in the fall. The King Scholarship is a competitive award granted to undergraduates who are committed to social justice, academic success, service, leadership and cultural awareness.
Crestwood Elks Recognize Sappington Students
Sappington Elementary School fifth-grade students Dzejlan Sofic and Madison Harris were recently selected as students of the month by the Crestwood Elks Lodge.
Dzejlan has developed a student celebration called “High Flyer” to identify and honor students who show good character. Students who are High Flyers have gone above and beyond in their demonstration of great character. They are announced during the morning announcements and have become a favorite school celebration, all thanks to Dzejlan’s leadership.
Madison is the morning announcements manager at Sappington. This means she arrives to school early each day, writes the script, uploads pictures and videos and organizes the teleprompter. As a student leader, she also helps out in the library, helping students check out books before school.
Crestwood-Sunset Hills Chamber Honors Two LHS Students
Lindbergh High School seniors Becca Wurl and Lauren Greiner were honored as students of the month by the Crestwood-Sunset Hills Area Chamber of Commerce this April.
Becca attends South Tech High School each afternoon, where she leads her class in the Vet Tech program, and is recognized for going above and beyond in her care for animals. Becca’s teachers note that she takes great pride in her work, and always makes sure the job is done right. She is a Renaissance Platinum Award recipient, a member of the National Technical Honor Society, an A+ tutor, a member of Future Farmers of America and a volunteer with Saving Grace Rescue Animals. After graduation, she plans to attend college and become a veterinarian.
Lauren is an International Baccalaureate diploma candidate, a National Merit Finalist and a section leader in the Spirit of St. Louis Marching Band. Her teachers note that she is an extremely hard worker who is not afraid to ask questions to figure out the reasoning behind a concept. She plays piano and flute, and recently qualified for the state DECA competition. She has been accepted to five colleges and is still deciding on a major to pursue.
