District Driving Economic Development and Growth
March 28, 2016
Lindbergh Schools recently was honored with the Crestwood-Sunset Hills Area Chamber of Commerce Community Improvement Award, for drawing a record number of young families to the area and completing several facility improvement projects that have proactively addressed enrollment growth while having a positive impact on the surrounding neighborhoods.
Even beyond Crestwood and Sunset Hills, a recent comparison of St. Louis County school districts shows that Lindbergh Schools is doing more with less, holding the standard for both taxpayer value and academic excellence in the metro region.
Lindbergh Schools has a long tradition of doing what is best for students while maintaining a balanced budget, and the Board of Education stands committed to fiscal responsibility in 2016-17, in spite of rapid enrollment growth and limited new resources.

Lindbergh Schools has a long tradition of doing what is best for students while maintaining a balanced budget, and the Board of Education stands committed to fiscal responsibility in 2016-17, in spite of rapid enrollment growth and limited new resources.
Lindbergh Schools By the Numbers:
- More than 300 additional students are projected to enroll districtwide next year, and very little new revenue is expected from new residential and commercial construction.
- Lindbergh operates with one of the leanest budgets in all of St. Louis County, and has the 18th lowest total tax rate out of 22 total school districts.
- Lindbergh has added more than 1,000 students since 2008, when the official enrollment was 5,650. However, total assessed value is about $72 million lower than 2008 levels. This is significant because 92 cents of every dollar used to educate Lindbergh students comes from local sources.
- Lindbergh Schools has the fewest administrators in St. Louis County, when compared to overall student population, with the exception of Mehlville.
- Class sizes, while manageable, rank the highest of all 22 St. Louis County school districts. Maintaining class sizes is an essential goal, especially as enrollment continues to increase.
- When the Gravois Bluffs TIF was paid in 2015, approximately $2 million in new tax revenue began coming to Lindbergh, at the perfect time. Lindbergh used that $2 million in annual revenue to add 34 new classroom teachers and accommodate rapid enrollment growth. Gravois Bluffs has not been a windfall; rather, it is helping to protect class sizes from becoming even larger.
- Lindbergh is in good company when it comes to academic excellence, tying with Brentwood and Ladue School Districts for the highest percent of points scored in St. Louis on Missouri’s Annual Performance Report for schools. The APR shows how well school districts meet Missouri’s education standards, and measures performance based on academic achievement, subgroup achievement, college and career readiness, attendance rate and graduation rate.
