Truman Teacher Wins Cardinals Classroom Makeover
Truman Middle School math teacher Megan Scott won a back-to-school St. Louis Cardinals themed classroom makeover that would have made her own dad proud. A few months after entering a drawing at Busch Stadium on Father’s Day, Scott received a phone call from The Teacher’s Lounge in South County.
“I was shocked and could not believe that I was picked for this awesome opportunity,” Scott said. “My dad, who passed away a little over a year ago, was the biggest Cardinals fan ever. I can’t help but think that he may have had something to do with me winning this drawing!”
Three employees from The Teacher’s Lounge came to Scott’s classroom in August and designed the space. “Ms. Scott’s Clubhouse” includes ballpark-themed bulletin boards, baseball floor graphics, and a “Math Dugout” with lots of fun red accent furniture.
“The final product is amazing,” Scott said.
Sappington Makerspace
Students at Sappington Elementary School explored their new library Makerspace, made possible by a $72,600 grant from the Innovative Technology Education Fund.
“We are not just a place where you check out library books anymore,” Librarian Karen Czaicki told her students. “We have much more than that! This is a space where we can make, design, create, build and share.”
The library is divided into a variety of learning spaces for research, collaboration, engineering and development. Students can watch a 3-D printer make plastic models at one station, while others play piano using circuitry at the “MaKey MaKey” table, browse the Idea Shelf or explore the world of LEGO robotics.
The grant also provided 25 iPads for the school, which students can use in the library or check out for use at home.
Link Crew
Members of the Lindbergh High School Link Crew welcomed more than 450 incoming freshmen for orientation Wednesday, Aug. 13. Link Crew is a transition program that connects juniors and seniors with incoming freshmen to create positive first-year experiences at LHS.
“Link Crew helps our incoming freshmen make a successful transition from middle school to high school,” said LHS principal Andy Croley. “It makes them more comfortable, confident and focused on learning.”
Freshmen were paired with Link Crew leaders for team-building activities and guided tours of the high school campus. Leaders will stay in touch with their freshmen classmates throughout the school year for organized study session and activities.
