Students Advance in Geography Bee
Lindbergh students Nat Bilderback, Will Vestal and Marty Seeker are among a select group of semifinalists who will advance to the 2015 Missouri National Geographic State Bee on Friday, March 27.
Students Spell Success in Local Bee
Lindbergh students Mukund Chidambaram and Colette Giezentanner participated in the 2015 St. Louis Post-Dispatch Spelling Bee, March 14 at McKendree University.
Colette, a third-grader in the Program for Exceptionally Gifted Students at Concord Elementary School, advanced to the seventh round of competition, correctly spelling words such as “Rottweiler” and “algorithm” along the way.
Mukund, who is in fifth grade at Kennerly Elementary School, advanced through the fifth round of competition.
Kiwanis Names LHS Senior Student of the Month
The Crestwood-Sunset Hills Kiwanis Club recently recognized Lindbergh High School senior Drew Pavlik as the club’s student of the month.
“Drew has proven himself to be a hardworking, intelligent and involved student who excels academically and involves himself in a wide assortment of extracurricular activities,” said LHS college and career counselor Kate Keegan, who nominated him for the award.
During his time at LHS, Drew has earned a 3.4 GPA, been a member of Link Crew, and volunteered for Sunday Night Lights. Drew has also participated in football and wrestling all four years. After graduation, he plans to major in mechanical engineering at Missouri University of Science and Technology.

Orchestras Earn Superior Ratings at Festival
Lindbergh’s middle school orchestra students impressed the judges, earning all “I” Superior ratings on March 9 at the St. Louis Schools Music Educators’ Association Large Group Middle School Orchestra Festival, which was held on the campus of Lindbergh High School. Sixth-grade orchestras, and seventh- and eighth-grade orchestras from Sperreng and Truman middle schools participated in the event.

Lindbergh students Nat Bilderback, Will Vestal and Marty Seeker are among a select group of semifinalists who will advance to the 2015 Missouri National Geographic State Bee on Friday, March 27.
Nat is a fifth-grader in the Program for Exceptionally Gifted Students at Concord Elementary School. Will is an eighth-grader at Truman Middle School, and Marty is a seventh-grader at Sperreng Middle School. These students will compete among 99 state qualifiers at the University of Missouri Columbia, for a chance to qualify for the National Geographic Bee Championship in Washington, DC, May 11-13. The National Geographic Bee is open to students in grades 4-8.

Students Spell Success in Local Bee

Thirty-two students from throughout the region competed in the event. Competitors ranged in age from 7 to 14. More than 250 St. Louis-area students took a written test after winning their school spelling bees to participate in the finals, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Elks Select Students of the Month
Crestwood Elementary School fifth-grade students Rosie Page and Isaac Ash were recently named students of the month by the Crestwood Elks Lodge #2503. Elks President Emily Strickland presented each student with a certificate of achievement and a $50 Walmart gift card. Both students were selected for their outstanding academic achievement, excellent character and wonderful efforts at school, said fifth-grade teacher Judy Lincoln.
Builders Club Honors Hawkins Award Winners
The Lindbergh middle school Builders Club recently recognized eighth-grade students Mavis Causey, Truman, and Preston Ocello, Sperreng, with the Hawkins Award for their service to fellow students and teachers. The Hawkins Award is presented quarterly to students nominated by their teachers for going out of their way to help others. The award is given in honor of former Lindbergh Board member and long-time Kiwanis member Ted Hawkins, who passed away this past fall and spent a lifetime in community service.
