Earlier today we received notification from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education that Lindbergh Schools will not have to make up days missed due to flooding on May 3-5. This means that the 2016-17 calendar will remain unchanged, and the last day of school for students and teachers will be Friday, May 26.
The following is an excerpt from the letter I received today from Dr. Roger Dorson, deputy commissioner of education for Missouri:
We know that the recent flood event created a hardship for many Lindbergh employees and families, and each of you remain in our thoughts during this time. I would like to thank Lindbergh’s school counselors and social workers for their dedication as they work to offer assistance to our families in need.
On behalf of the entire school district, I extend our sincere thanks to the state education department for honoring Lindbergh’s request to waive days missed last week. I wish you all a successful and happy end to the school year.
Sincerely,
Dr. Jim Simpson

DESE Grants Flood Waiver for May 3-5
May 10, 2017
Dear Lindbergh Parents and Staff,
Earlier today we received notification from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education that Lindbergh Schools will not have to make up days missed due to flooding on May 3-5. This means that the 2016-17 calendar will remain unchanged, and the last day of school for students and teachers will be Friday, May 26.
The following is an excerpt from the letter I received today from Dr. Roger Dorson, deputy commissioner of education for Missouri:
“I am writing on behalf of Commissioner Margie Vandeven relative to your request for forgiveness, under 160.041 RSMo, for days missed due to recent flooding in the Lindbergh School District. … Generally, this statute is evoked only in situations where natural disasters have damaged buildings to the extent they are not suitable for immediate use. We have concluded that since your area was impacted due to widespread flooding that compromised access to your buildings for a prolonged period of time, it does warrant forgiveness for three (3) days, May 3-5, 2017, missed due to this event.”
Sincerely,
Dr. Jim Simpson
