Lindbergh Earns National Character Awards
May 13, 2019
Character.org, a national advocate and leader for character education, recently announced that Lindbergh Schools was one of three districts nationwide to be named a 2019 National District of Character. Lindbergh is the first district in the history of the program to earn national certification three times.
"Character education plays an important role in supporting the social-emotional wellness of each child, and creating a welcoming, caring environment where all students can learn," said Superintendent Dr. Tony Lake.
In addition, three Lindbergh schools - Lindbergh High School, Sperreng Middle School and Truman Middle School - were among the 88 schools designated as 2019 National Schools of Character. LHS and Sperreng earned recertification, while Truman received the honor for the first time.
Lindbergh now has eight National Schools of Character.
"We are proud of our teachers, administrators and staff who value student voice, promote a culture of inclusion, and understand the value of helping every student feel safe and supported," added Dr. Lake.
Character.org also announced its 2019 Promising Practices, which are successful, unique strategies designed to reinforce character traits in students. These practices enable students to experience positive character firsthand, as well as enrich their lives and the lives of others.
Lindbergh’s 2019 Promising Practices included:
- "Diversity Day" at Lindbergh High School
- "Paracord Pets" at Sperreng Middle School
- "Student-led Service Day" at Truman Middle School
