Chelsea Silvermintz currently teaches at Lindbergh High School, Sperreng Middle School, and Truman Middle School. Because of varying schedules at the different schools, availability to discuss pertinent information can vary. For questions or concerns, please use email or provide options for call back times if you need a verbal response regarding your child.
At the beginning of the year, Freshman Band is split into marching and non-marching band. Once marching season is over, all Freshman Band students will join together in second hour for full Freshman Band class. It is a concert setting with auditioned chairs. There are graded concert performances that occur outside the school day. Please see the Course Expectations page for an updated PDF copy of the syllabus and event calendar for those dates. If you have a Google account, you are also welcome to subscribe to the High School Concert Bands Calendar by clicking the "+Google Calendar" button in the bottom right hand corner of the calendar (you may have to scroll right to see it).
Additionally, students in Freshman Band are asked to submit performance tests online through Canvas. The link to Canvas is listed under the "Helpful Links" tab on this website.
6th Grade Clarinet Class
Practice time is due every Friday for all 6th grade band students. At least 120 minutes (2 hours) a week is recommended to improve performance. It is also recommended they stretch out that practice time to at least 20 minutes a day, to develop consistent practice habits that can lead to improved performance success on the instrument.
7th/8th Grade Truman Woodwinds
Mrs. Silvermintz and Mr. McMahon co-teach the 7th and 8th grade woodwinds at Truman Middle School. 8th graders have the option of participating in either Marching Band or Non-Marching Band in high school. Both options can result in a full year band credit. 7th and 8th grade students are still required to turn in weekly practice minutes.
