Transportation Waiver

  • Lindbergh Schools has been closely examining bus ridership and capacity to create the most efficient routes to serve our students. Did you know that each Lindbergh Schools bus costs approximately $65,000 to operate for an entire school year? In addition, almost half of all Lindbergh students who are assigned to a route do not actually ride the bus.

In accordance with the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), all school districts must maintain accurate, active ridership rosters. DESE defines an active rider as a student who rides at least one time a week. Based on this definition, the district is required to remove students who do not meet the requirements of an active rider.

By identifying students who use alternate transportation, we can reduce the number of buses we need and maximize ridership in a manner that is safe and comfortable for students. This will directly benefit students by creating significant savings that can be used for classroom instruction.

    What you need to know:

    • Families who know their students will not ride a bus during the 2020-21 school year should fill out a student transportation waiver as part of this year’s back-to-school online enrollment packet.

    • We understand that unforeseen circumstances and/or emergencies may arise. Bus passes will be available for one-time ridership, and no student will ever be refused permission to ride.

    • Families may resume bus transportation for a student at any time by contacting the student’s school office.
